Night at Wolha Castle — A Tale in Five Chapters

This is the story of the Lord of Wolha Castle, a small outpost on the northern frontier. Night after warned night, the Lord holds back the Heukcheol army and grows the territory. In every rest period the Lord rides out on expeditions, gathers allies and exposes a traitor at court — and at last marches on the Heukcheol Overlord's own castle to save the kingdom.

The World

Cheongun is a kingdom of blue mountains and long rivers. Beyond its northern border lies Heukcheol, a realm that worships iron and fire. Wolha Castle sits on the narrow plain between the two — the only route a great army can take, known as "the Gate of the North." The Wolha territory is ringed by mountains and rivers and can be entered only by three roads: south, west and east. At the end of the west road stands Eunho Castle by its lake; at the end of the east road, the border garrison of Bukgwan Fort.

Chapter 1 · Frontier Lord (Late Autumn)

One month after the new Lord takes office, Heukcheol scouts' torches appear at the North Ridge Watchtower. That same day, urgent word arrives: the procession of the King of Cheongun, touring the north, is surrounded in Red Canyon. While the Lord rescues the King and aids Eunho Castle and Bukgwan Fort in turn, forging alliances, the Heukcheol Warlord retreats, leaving behind the name of an "Overlord." Yet the bolt on the southern gate, deep inside Cheongun, had been drawn from within. Someone on the inside is opening the way.

Chapter 2 · Baekdu Snowfield (Midwinter)

One by one, the snowfield outposts fall silent — and if the beacons go dark, no word from the north can reach the Capital. With the warrior monk Mujin, the Lord revives the beacon line, but reinforcements from the Capital arrive strangely late. After rescuing Seokdam, an old mason dragged off to build an ice fortress, Wolha begins raising stone walls of its own.

Chapter 3 · West Sea Harbor (Early Spring)

Past Eunho Castle on the way to the West Sea, the Red Sail pirates are burning the harbor. Ganghwi, a twin-blade swordsman, turns against his chief after watching him abandon his own men, and joins the Lord. A court travel pass found on the pirate chief begins to tie every past leak into a single thread. Harbor folk who lost their homes come to Wolha and become workers.

Chapter 4 · Revolt in the Capital (Spring)

A revolt breaks out in the Capital. This time the enemy is a man of Cheongun. A bundle of letters brought by the court strategist Yeonhwa reveals the truth, and the Lord protects the King while hunting down the leader of the revolt. On the day the revolt is put down, word comes that the great Heukcheol army has already crossed the border.

Chapter 5 · Heukcheol Expedition (Summer)

This time the fight is not about holding on — it is about ending it. As the Lord crosses the border toward Heukcheol Castle, the Overlord sends a strike force against a Wolha that looks empty. That night, soldiers from Eunho Castle and Bukgwan Fort — the allies saved in Chapter 1 — stand together on Wolha's walls.
