Frontier of Cheongun · Wolha Castle

Grow your castle,
survive the warned night

Castle Night is a 3D castle defense game you play right in your browser. By day you tend your territory, raise towers and walls and train soldiers; on the nights your scouts warn you about, you hold off the Heukcheol army. Between raids, ride out to defend hilltop fortresses and answer allied castles that call for help.

Six Things to Enjoy

Everything you build stays in your territory. Every tower, palisade and soldier helps you survive the next night.

🏰 TerritoryThe Wolha plain, ringed by mountains and rivers

Only three roads lead into your territory: south, west and east. Your lord rides across the plain building farms, lumber camps, quarries, silver mines and houses, and assigns workers to each site.

  • Four resources — silver, food, wood and stone — plus market trading
  • Walls in 10 tiers from wooden palisades to a stone fortress, and grounds that grow as you expand them
  • Nine village buildings, including the Smithy, Arsenal, Stable, Barracks and Infirmary
On a raid night, barracks squads hold the crossroads in front of the castle gate

🌙 Raid Nights · Barracks SoldiersThe nights you are warned about, you hold the gate with your soldiers

Scouts warn you ahead of time — "The Heukcheol army comes from the west in two days." Every raid is followed by a 2–4 day break, time enough to train soldiers at the Barracks.

  • Three troop types — spearmen, archers and cavalry — in three tiers unlocked by Barracks level and Drill Manuals
  • Training ordered by day is ready the next morning; your Barracks level sets your capacity
  • Some fallen soldiers come back wounded and recover at the Infirmary
  • Hold the line for silver and crowns; fall and your storehouse is plundered
An expedition defense battle at a snow-covered outpost on the snowfield

⚔️ Expeditions · DefenseFive chapters, forty expeditions

The expeditions you set out on during breaks tell a story that crosses Cheongun: a snowfield outpost, the West Sea harbor, a capital in revolt, and at last Heukcheol Castle.

  • Raise towers on empty plots while your lord and generals fight in person
  • Sixteen named Heukcheol captains and troop matchups (cavalry → archers → spearmen)
  • One expedition is one day in your territory — the two are woven together
A dirt road winding up to a hilltop fortress, with towers on the ledges above

⛰️ Side Battles · Hill FortressesThe castle on the summit, the enemy on the switchbacks

Side battles take place at mountain fortresses on the hilltop. A dirt road switchbacks up the hillside, and towers on the ledges above the road shoot down at the climbing enemy.

  • Two per chapter, ten hill fortresses in all
  • Every one is shaped differently: a short steep climb, two roads that merge halfway, three roads that meet at the top
An allied castle rising in five tiers as the Heukcheol army climbs the stone stairs

🛡️ Relief MarchesSix castles calling for help

Cheonggye Fort, Bukgwan Fort, Songnyeong Castle, Eunho Castle, Yeonsu Castle and Hoeam Castle send messengers as the story unfolds. Pick a castle on the world map, ride to it and hold out for several nights.

  • Five tiers from the fields to the keep; the enemy climbs only by the stone stairs
  • Build towers, palisades and houses by day; stop enemies from every direction by night
  • Your lord can ride all the way out to the far fields

🐎 Expeditions · ChargeShoot from the saddle and break through

Your lord leads the cavalry from the rear. Pick number gates to grow your riders, and cut down the enemies in your path with arrows loosed at full gallop.

  • Smash or dodge the spiked barriers, carts and shield walls the Heukcheol army sets up
  • Side charges with three roads and three gates per row

A Day in Wolha

It's simple. Build by day, defend on the warned nights, and set out on your days of rest.

Day

Ride around your territory building structures and towers, assigning workers and ordering training at the Barracks.

Raid warning

Scouts tell you which road the enemy will take, and in how many days. Fortify that road first.

Break

Head out on an expedition or side battle, or relieve an allied castle. Either way, a day passes in your territory.

Raid night

Towers, palisades and walls, your lord and generals, and your barracks soldiers hold the gate together.

Six Lords, 24 Generals

The Lord you pick at the start is yours for good. Seven story generals join as your expeditions unfold, and seventeen more can be recruited at the War Hall. Three generals ride with your lord; the rest guard the roads of your territory.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. No download and no payments — play right in your browser. The game is supported by ads at the edges of the screen.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. On a phone, drag the screen to move and tap buildings to enter. On a computer, move with WASD or the arrow keys, press E to enter buildings, and use 1–4 for Lord skills. N ends the day and ESC closes windows.

Where is my progress saved?

By default it is saved on your device (in the browser). If you sign in with Google after clearing stage 1-1, it is also saved to the server so you can continue on any device. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Do enemies attack every night?

No. Raids only come on nights your scouts warn you about in advance, and there is always a 2–4 day rest period between raids.

How do I raise soldiers?

Build a Barracks in your village and order spearmen, archers or cavalry in groups of five; they are ready the next morning. The Barracks level sets your capacity (20, 40 or 70), and higher-tier soldiers need a higher Barracks level plus the Drill Manual research at the Arsenal. Soldiers fight on raid nights and on relief marches.

What is the story about?

A five-chapter tale of a frontier Lord who holds off the Heukcheol army, gathers allies, unmasks a traitor at court, and marches all the way to Heukcheol Castle. Read the story
