Heukcheol Army Codex
The Heukcheol army from the northern realm is easy to spot by its black iron helmets and red banners. The Heukcheol Overlord sends his captains out in every direction to shake the Kingdom of Cheongun, while throwing army after army at Wolha, the gate of the north. This page covers the enemies you'll face on the battlefield and the captains who lead them.

| Troop | Look | Traits | How to beat them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foot Soldier ๐ฑ Spearmen | Wide-brimmed iron helmet, iron armor, round shield and spear | The most common basic soldier. They march in groups along the road to your gate. | Archer generals and Archer Towers deal with them well. Blasting whole groups with Cannon Towers is even faster. |
| Scout ๐ Cavalry | Fur hat, red sash, black horse, twin swords | Rushes in much faster than other enemies. In a charge, a collision costs you 2 riders. | Goes down easily when a spear general catches it on the road. In charges, shoot it down first. |
| Armored Soldier ๐ฑ Spearmen | Horned helmet, pauldrons, red banner on the back, glaive | High HP and heavy hits. Tears through palisades and gates quickly. | Save your Lord skills (Arrow Rain, Moonflash) for them. Archer generals have the edge. |
| Archer ๐น Archers | Dark hood, quiver, bow | Stops at a distance to shoot your Lord, generals and walls. In charges, it looses red arrows. | Riding it down with a cavalry general or a mounted Lord is fastest. In charges, you can dodge its arrows by moving left or right. |
| Enemy Captain Varies by captain | Tall plumed helmet and cape; each captain has a different plume color | Appears in boss stages and Great Raids. Every few seconds, a war cry briefly speeds up nearby Heukcheol troops. | Bring generals strong against the captain's troop type, and when the war cry sounds, clear out the crowd with Lord skills first. |
The Enemy's Ranks in the Story
Behind every battle stands the Heukcheol Overlord. Under him serve the Heukcheol Warlord, who leads the vanguard; Hanbing, commander of the Frost Wolf troops on the snowfield; and the Red Tiger Chief of the Red Sail pirates, who trades in silver and ships. And inside the Cheongun court, a traitor lies hidden: Left State Councillor Gwon Yun. That is why raids on your territory keep coming from the Heukcheol army, even when the enemies of Chapters 2โ4 are someone else.
The 12 Enemy Captains
Named enemy captains appear in person in the boss stages of expedition defense battles and in territory Great Raids. Each one has a line to say on arrival and another on defeat.
| Captain | Troop type | Where they appear | Story and strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heukcheol Warlord Heukcheol Vanguard Warlord | ๐ Cavalry | 1-5 Siege of Bukgwan ยท Territory Great Raids | The Overlord's vanguard warlord. Rough and hot-headed, he sneers at the Lord of Wolha as a โlord of a little castle.โ He charges in fast on horseback, so post a spear general on the road. |
| Cheolgyeon Heukcheol Remnant Captain | ๐ฑ Spearmen | 1-8 Wolha's Last Night ยท Territory Great Raids | Leader of the remnants who push in through the south gate after it is unbarred from the inside. Wear this captain down from afar with archer generals and Archer Towers. |
| Seolgung Frost Wolf Archer Captain | ๐น Archers | 2-5 Retake the Snow Camp | An archer captain who tries to cut the beacon line under cover of the blizzard. Seolgung shoots from long range, so ride in with a cavalry general or a mounted Lord. |
| Bingnang Frost Wolf Cavalry Captain | ๐ Cavalry | 2-8 Last Stand at the Beacon | A cavalry captain who comes charging in for revenge after Hanbing falls. Spear generals hold this captain off well. |
| Dochung Red Sail Hook Lieutenant | ๐ฑ Spearmen | 3-5 Shipyard Defense | A pirate out to turn the shipyard's ships into kindling, still fighting without knowing the chief has already fled. Archer generals have the edge. |
| Haegwi Red Sail Remnant Archer Captain | ๐น Archers | 3-8 Defend the Naval Base | An archer captain who keeps targeting the naval base even after the Red Tiger Chief is gone. Take Haegwi down fast with cavalry. |
| Heukpyo Gwon Yun's Night Raid Captain | ๐ Cavalry | 4-5 Capital Night Raid | A night-raid captain who means to ride all the way to the palace in one dash on a moonless night. Put a spear general in front of the gate. |
| Maseok Rebel Remnant Captain | ๐ฑ Spearmen | 4-8 Palace Last Stand | Leader of the remnants who keep storming the palace even after Gwon Yun's capture. When defeated, Maseok confesses, โWe were deceived too.โ |
| Heuksi Heukcheol Archer Captain | ๐น Archers | 5-3 Hold the Ash Fortress | Archer captain of the main Heukcheol army, come to retake the lost Ash Fortress. Unleashes a rain of arrows. Charge in first with cavalry. |
| Yeomcheol Heukcheol Volcano Vanguard | ๐ฑ Spearmen | 5-5 Camp at the Volcano | A vanguard commander who makes camp amid the volcanic ash. When defeated, Yeomcheol cries out for the Heukcheol Warlord to hurry the cavalry. |
| Heukcheol Overlord Ruler of Heukcheol | ๐ Cavalry | 5-8 Showdown with the Overlord | The one behind every battle, who has long had his eye on Wolha, โthe gate of the north.โ The enemy captain with the most HP. Throw spear generals and every Lord skill you have at him. |
| Ogeol Heukcheol Centurion | ๐ฑ Spearmen | Territory Great Raids | A centurion with an eye on Wolha's granaries. The first to call a retreat when the battle turns. |
Great Raids and Enemy Captains
Territory raids grow larger as they add up, and every fourth raid is a Great Raid led by an enemy captain. Great Raid captains take turns in this order: Ogeol โ Cheolgyeon โ Heukcheol Warlord. When a raid warning appears, post generals strong against the captain's troop type on the road the raid is coming from.
Enemy Captains in Charges
Enemy captains wait at the end of charges, too. In a Plain Charge, the captain slowly advances toward you; in a Hill Charge, the captain guards the fortress gate and steps out once your cavalry arrives. The Heukcheol Vanguard (1-2), the Supply Captain (1-4), Hanbing (2-7), the Red Tiger Chief (3-7), Gwon Yun the Traitor (4-7), the Heukcheol Gate Captain (5-7) and others block your way at each turning point in the story.
